Abstract:
In the earlier Shlokas, it can be noted that Duryodhana, while introducing Pandavas army and his own army to Drunacharya, seems to be elated in his own glory and confident of his victory by taking into account the size of the armies. His army has 11 akhouhinis whereas Pandavas' army has only 7. Here, Bheeshma declares their readiness for war by blowing his conch loudly. He is trying to please Duryodhana here again by re-affirming his loyalty to Dhartarasthras by blowing his conch on their behalf. Nonetheless, the Pandava army responds equally by blowing their conches with the same or even more vigour. This unexpected response from the Pandavas, shakes the confidence among the Dhartarasthras for a while.
